Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was named in the BCCI’s four-member working group formed to study the Justice R M Lodha committee’s order and give recommendations within six weeks. The committee will be chaired by IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla and will have BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur and Treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhary as the other members. BCCI’s legal adviser U N Banerjee will assist the panel.

The venues will host both the men’s and women’s tournaments which will be held simultaneously.

Expl:- Beijing won its bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics on Friday, making it the first city to be awarded both a Summer and Winter Games. Beijing narrowly beat out Almaty, earning 44 votes compared to the city in Kazakhstan’s 40.  Oslo was initially named a finalist, but its Olympic bid was withdrawn after the Norwegian government voted against financially supporting it.  Beijing hosted the 2008 Summer Games and China plans to reuse several venues from it for the 2022 event. In winning its bid to host the winter games, Beijing managed to overcome questions over a potential lack of natural snow and concerns over the distance between proposed venues.  The 2022 competitions will be spread across three clusters over 100 miles.

The compound marksman bagged a silver after going down to home favourite Stephan Hansen in the final on 31^st July. The 2014 Asian Games team gold medalist Rajat Chauhan was going neck and neck till the third set when he shot a poor 8 and 9 as Hansen gained a three-point lead before wrapping up the game 147-143 in a fiercely contested individual men’s compound final.

Expl:- Modern Indian artist Sayed Haider Raza, has been conferred the highest French civilian honour, the Commandeur de la Legion d’ Honneur (the Legion of Honour) for his peerless achievements. To mark celebrations of the French National Day, the award was bestowed by ambassador Francois Richier at a function at the French Embassy, New Delhi. The French honour was conferred on the 93-year-old artist in acknowledgment of his “peerless achievements transcending all boundaries”. Created in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, the award is given for outstanding service to France, regardless of recipients’ nationality.

Expl:- M S Viswanathan, one of the most popular music composers of south Indian cinema, passed away on 14^th July. Viswanathan, known in the industry as MSV, has a huge body of work in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam with over 750 films. Sivaji Ganeshan’s Panam in 1952 was his debut creation.  MSV is popular for his collaboration with fellow composer T.K. Ramamoorthy. The duo composed music for 86 Tamil films during their association of over a decade. “Sonnathu Needhana” (Nenjil Oru Alayam), “Viswanathan Velai Vendum” (Kadalikka Neram Illai), “Kettavarellam Padalam” (Thangai) are among MSV’s all time favourites that are still popular in Tamil Nadu.  Viswanathan is a recipient of Kalaimamani and several other music awards. Born in Palakkad in Kerala, Viswanathan had scored music for over 1,000 films.

Expl:- C.V. Narasimhan ,considered the senior-most IPS officer in the country, passed away following a brief illness in a private hospital on 17^th July. In his career spanning 35 years in the police department, Mr. Narasimhan held different positions such as the Director, Central Bureau of Investigation, Member Secretary, National Police Commission and Directorate, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. In 1948, he topped the first national competitive examination in the IPS category, and bagged the President’s Revolver Prize for the ‘best cadet’ at the National Police Academy in Mount Abu. In 1974, he became the first IPS officer to be posted as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, a post to which only IAS officers were considered. While in his tenure in the DVAC, Mr. Narasimhan played a key role in drafting the Vigilance Manual, the first of its kind

Expl:- Helena Ndume of Namibia and Jorge Sampaio of Portugal were on 24 July 2015 awarded with the first-ever Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Prize by the United Nations (UN) at the UN Headquarters in New York. Ndume, a female ophthalmologist, was awarded for treating blindness and eye-related illnesses in Namibia and throughout the developing world.  While Sampaio, the former president of Portugal from 1996 to 2006 and also the former mayor of Lisbon from 1989 to 1995, was awarded for his contribution to his country for his struggle for the restoration of democracy in Portugal.
