IBPS or Institute of Banking Personnel Selection holds various examinations periodically for recruitment in to various public sector banks and other institutions. More than 20 nationalised banks barring SBI recruit Probationary Officers (PO), Clerks, Specialist Officers and personnel for Regional Rural Banks through IBPS Examinations. After nationalization of banks, National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM) was asked to devise a centralised recruitment procedure. Later in 1984 the said department of NIBM was changed in to Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). Candidates who are successful in IBPS Probationary Officer (PO) Examination and subsequent interview are absorbed in various nationalised banks as trainee officer in the Junior Management Grade Service (JMGS). A PO can rise to managerial level such as General Manger or Chairman Grade with time.
IBPS Clerk Examination: IBPS Clerk Examination is done to recruit clerks who handle day to day general office tasks such as record keeping, staffing counters, handling regulatory tasks and more. IBPS RRB Examinations are very popular amongst candidates who want to live and work in their home states.
